Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 4, 2026  |  Last Updated: March 1, 2026

Overview

Poco a Poco ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data our iOS application collects, how it is used, and with whom it may be shared.

Most of the app's data stays entirely on your device. The one exception is our optional food photo scanning feature, which sends a photo you select to a third-party AI service to identify food and estimate calories. This is described in full detail below.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

This data is stored using Apple's standard on-device storage (UserDefaults) and can be deleted at any time from the app's Settings → Reset App Data.

Food Photo Scanning — AI Feature (Third-Party Data Sharing)

This section describes the only feature that sends data outside your device. Use of this feature is optional and requires your explicit consent before any data is transmitted.

What data is sent

When you choose to use the "Scan Food Photo" feature (by tapping "Take Photo" or "Choose from Gallery"), the photo you select is transmitted over a secure HTTPS connection to our backend server for processing.

Who the data is sent to

Your photo is processed by our backend server hosted on Railway (railway.app), which forwards it to Google's Gemini Vision API to identify food items and estimate calorie content. It is transmitted to:

How the data is used

Your photo is used solely to identify food items and estimate their calorie and macronutrient content. The result is returned to your device and displayed in the app.

Data retention

We do not store your photos. Photos are processed in real time and are not saved on our server or by the Google Gemini API beyond the duration of the API call. No images are logged, indexed, or used for model training by us.

For Google's data handling practices, please refer to Google Gemini API Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.

User consent

The app presents a clear consent prompt the first time you attempt to use the photo scan feature, explaining what data is sent and to whom, before any photo is transmitted. You may decline and log food manually at any time.

Subscription & Purchases

Poco a Poco offers an optional auto-renewable subscription ("Poco a Poco Pro") managed through Apple's In-App Purchase system and RevenueCat. When you make a purchase, Apple and RevenueCat process the transaction. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not receive your payment details. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

We also use Superwall to manage paywall presentation. Superwall may collect anonymized usage data related to paywall interactions. Superwall's privacy policy is available at superwall.com/privacy.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

The app offers optional integration with Apple Health. If you grant permission, we read and write calorie and weight data to the Health app on your device. This data is not transmitted to our servers. You can revoke this permission at any time via iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.

Analytics & Tracking

Poco a Poco does not use any third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or user tracking technologies. We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

Children's Privacy

Poco a Poco is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
